On June 17th it was announced that Daveigh Elizabeth Chase, a former child actress of the 2000s, had died the previous day from complications caused by meningitis and severe blood infections. Not much is known about the circumstances of her death at this time, other than the fact that she had been recently admitted to the hospital for severe malnourishment.
Born in 1990, Chase was best known for her iconic roles as Samara Morgan in The Ring, Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko, Lilo Pelekai in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, and Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. In the 2010s, she suddenly stopped acting and vanished from the public sphere. According to Chase's mother in a press interview, Daveigh suffered from opioid addiction following a motorcycle accident in 2016 as well as periods of homelessness due to the instability of the housing market in Los Angeles.
