The number of killed cattle has already reached thousands. Mass slaughter of cattle has been recorded in the Tomsk, Omsk, and Novosibirsk regions, the Trans-Baikal and Altai territories, and the Altai Republic.
The official explanation is a "pasteurellosis* epidemic". Sometimes rabies is mentioned as explanation. In some cases, authorities mention a "particularly dangerous disease," but refuse to specify which one. Howeverbeit, the further the situation develops the more doubtful and niggardly official explanations become.
Pasteurellosis* is a curable disease and veterinary regulations require that sick cattle to be isolated and cured rather than burned.
