How to actually lock in and learn guitar?
One of my ex gfs got me this years ago when we were together, but ive never made progress- im fine with the prospect that it might take longer due to me having below average motor skills cause of autism

Like do I just learn easy chords first, then practice switching between em until it’s fast and committed to memory? Or do I try by learning the tabs/chords (idk correct terminology idc) to a song i like? I don’t wanna actually have to learn music theory or how to read proper sheet music, atleast not straightaway, unless it’s actually necessary

im a bassist and my practice went like:
learn to use fingers on short note combinations -> practice moderate bpm -> cover easy songs -> basic theory -> learn to do chords in C and D

Honestly just learn the songs you like. If you can't play them normally just play the melodies with single notes. Make practicing fun or you won't want to do it

Music theory isn't necessary unless you're playing with others in a band or something, then it's definitely necessary. I took a MT class in HS and it didn't help with my actual playing, but it does help with understanding the music and being able to speak to other musicians without sounding like a bumbling retard "Uhh yeah so the riff goes like this. You're gonna play the third fret, no not that string, the other one, then this other fret," it's so fucking annoying playing with retards that don't know theory. You can do that long ass process, or you can say "Yeah it's a IV, V, III, VI in D major" and the whole band gets the picture instantly

Its completely possible for you to just start learning the songs you like first, especially if you are having trouble finding motivation- but learning scales is definitely a must early on especially if you never had a serious starting point until now. Just look up some youtube tutorials to follow along to, it would be good to use scale exercises as just that, exercises to run through before you lock in and start practicing a part on the song your learning.
