I am a big fan of John Le carre's tinker tailor soldier spy. One thing that does bother me is the suggestion both that Jim prideaux was gay, and that he was lovers with bill Haydon.
Fags and everybody on Reddit are acting like this is just stated fact, when the only things confirmed are that Haydon was gay and that Jim and Haydon were good friends, in their final conversation, alone, Jim and Bill don't even mention it, wouldn't you mention the fact that you were gay lovers given the context? It troubles me because I think it doesn't give prideaux a fair shake. It makes sense for Haydon, the college boy, who lives a pleasant, sheltered life, to be gay. I don't buy that the military man Prideaux, who breaks necks with one chop, is one. I also don't buy at all that, if two men in the intelligence agency with a famed and well known partnership working together were butt buddies, it wouldn't get around, given how easily rumours spread (send my love to ann) in the community. The only basis for it is that they were friends before entering into the service, and since when does that mean anything, in so far as ones sexuality?
Again, given the context of their conversation, I think it's obvious that Jim would've even mentioned or hinted at it, but not a word. Finally, I can tolerate theories, but it deeply frustrates me that people on Reddit are stating this as a fact. Allow me to list, prideaux is listed as gay in both lgbtpedia and Wikipedia, and numerous insufferable Reddit posts I will spare you the linking of. Well, if that's the case, where does it state prideaux was gay? Haydon admits to having male lovers, yet never mentions prideaux. Le carre certainly isn't afraid to delve into seedy topics, else why would he repeatedly allude to and clearly state the indisgressions of Ann? Not only is it a bad theory, which I can tolerate, but it is the stating of this awful theory on wikipedia of all places, that bothers me, as fact. I'm going to attempt to edit the page now, as it is plainly bollocks, from the same people who care so much about their beloved 'source' there is no evidence they were either both gay or lovers, it's stated clearly they were good friends.

edit: I see I am somewhat misled, as the final conversation is in the TV series only, not the book. That said, the fact remains it is never explicitly stated about prideaux.

it seems I have found the culprit. This has stood since 2017. Wikipedia had 8 years to clean out this untruth and they should've.

ah! it seems this chappy has mostly made edits on characters from the book, just a silly mistake, and nutters like me lose their heads, let's just click on that one at the bottom and…
AH! my my what is this?
