The best songs on this album are actually Lady Godivas Operation,The Gift, and Here she Comes. Sister Ray itself is overrated.

I respectfully disagree, Sister Ray is my all time favorite Velvet Underground tracks

nooooo thats such a useless contrarian opinion, sister ray is easily one of the most important and greatest rock songs in music history, the gift is extremely underrated though

How? Because thats the only song you know off of it? The songs I just listed are genuinely better lol. My favorite song off of the minions approved album ft.nico is probably Sunday morning if that makes me any less cringe and libtarded.

How? The Gift is super underrated for sure though that shit is a fucking jam. The Gift and Here she Comes are great songs. J
Chill as fuck and vibey. Same goes for lady Godiva for the most part. A little edge but more directed. Sister Ray doesnt work as well imo. Goes on for too long. Lou Reeds music approach was best in short bursts.

Black Angels Death Song,Mr.Rain did similar things better tbh. Contrarian as fuck ik but I dont think Lou reed needed to be writing rock operas. His approach demeans longer more fantastical storytelling, values simplicity, and embraces impact. I would in fact rather listen to a longer piece by rush or pink Floyd or something. I know thats not "cool" or whatever, but this approach feels less exciting and more just bland in long form. That being said I like "The Ocean" of of "1969:Lou Reed Live with The Velvet Underground" (released in 1974) though. Thats more like chilled out though. I think yhst like Lady Godiva loses steam halfway through if even tbh. Not my favorite velvet's song.

Sister Ray doesn't justify its own run time. Im sorry.

if you were intelligent enough to read my post to the end youd see that i mentioned the gift as an underrated song. Ive listened to the whole TVU discography and ive listened to white light more than 100 times in particular idk why youre trying to be so condescending.

funnily enough i find sunday morning to be one of the most overrated TVU songs, i think venus in furs is the best on .ft nico with heroin right behind it

The Gift is my second favorite song off of that album yeah, here she comes is probably the weakest in my opinion and i quite like lady godiva but im surprised you didnt mention i heard her call my name because its arguably the third best and underrated as hell

black angels death song is a classic and i really like the progression of hey mr rain but they dont have nearly as much fervor and insanity as sister ray, which to me was the final proper response to all the bullshit going on in the world of popular music, revealing the degeneracy but not to hide it again or try to fix it but to revel in it to embrace it and in that sense embrace reality, something which paved the path that many more genius musicians would walk in the future. It needed to be ridiculously long because its attempting to discover or perhaps rediscover the essence of rock music, in fact this is why i actually prefer the 37 minute live version. I also quite like the longer rock pieces of the floyds (maybe not necessairly rush) but id have to say sister ray is just the more important song to me mostly because of the music i listen to outside of TVU. Ocean is actually a track ive wanted to write a review about eventually since its one of the best examples of just how ahead of their time TVU were, being an almost post-rock track from the 60s it beats branca to the punch by a little over a decade, something which is truly fascinating and seldom seen in history.
