I don't know where you people keep getting that the book was overtly political or something, to me it felt more like a fictional soldier's memoir (especially when considering that heinlein was a vet) and the book was mostly impartial to the authoritarian setting, I guess Rico kept believing the system even after witnessing the horrors of war but it wasn't really celebrated by the author
