I don't listen to much prog, but I do like the more proggy albums from metal bands, like Seventh Son (Iron Maiden), Another Perfect Day (Motörhead) and Justice for all (Metallica)

Those aren't really THAT groggy. Metallica kind of sucks but Iron Maiden are pretty cool and Motorhead. Would add Judas Priest,Saxon,Blitzkrieg,Diamond Head,Anthrax,PanterA,Megadeth,Sodom,Tankard,Forbidden,Angel Dust,Nasty Savage,Running Wild,and Scannsr to that if you get the chance. And Tank obviously.
