ambient is so boring, and Aphex Twin is overrated IMO.
when you look into his life, its pretty clear he enjoys sound design more than music.
this explains alot about why some of his tracks are so self-indulgent and drawn out.
the weird, sometimes abrasive sound design makes it hard for me connect with it when it doesn't serve the rest of the arrangement well.
that being said, some his later work like Drukqs, Analord, and Syro are okay.
I enjoy Styrofoam's IDM stuff (before he went to synth pop, which is good as well) much more.
