Fun fact: the reason the setting is so dead and niggery is because its media literate™ authors were so media literate™ that despite their best efforts they accidentally made Christianity look fucking METAL which attracted lots of Christians and right wingers in general, and the authors sperged out and told anyone who isn't a radical anti-white leftist to gtfo of the community, so now it's small, gay and retarded.

Im having grimdark fatigue, it's already super corny and no matter how you try and spin it ends up being the same exact shit. There is yet another dying game with similar theme on the brink of dnb, this time an extraction shooter called Forever Winter. It's all aesthetics and no substance with barebones lore. Sure it looks cool but the game itself is a jumbled mess of half-assed concepts and ideas and thats because majority of their team is comprised of artists, not programmers or game designers. Artists. Real, war isn't dim and grim it is bright and brutal. You will watch your friend get cut in half by shrapnel and there won't be a cloud in the sky. The problem with the grimdark aesthetic is that almost no one trying to work within it even knows what it is at a fundamental level. Trench Crusade prides itself on being this resurrection of the true variety and viscerality and darkness that the aesthetic used to have before 40k became sterile and cliche and it's like, what the fuck are these people talking about? The idea of muting 40k's entire colour palette and taking everything 1000% ultra seriously all the time was never a thing, even the most cursory glance at its history shows this. Grimdark as it exists today was created as a consumer-identity to justify taking 40k lore as seriously as real world history so that the playerbase wouldn't have to feel insecure about being a bunch of pretentious manchildren. Passionless sunken-cost nonsense for whiny idiots that know nothing.

Trench Crusade is proof that modern 4chan isn't even capable of a very basic level of anti-wokeness, yet alone living up to this mecha-hitler internet hacker terrorist wizardry reputation its built for itself, because every TC general on /tg/ is just damage control for the objective fact that Trench Crusade is highly derivative of 40k, despises its fandom for being heckin' chuds, sees no hypocritical disconnect between these two ideas, has communists moderating its official Discord and despises Christianity. Forever Winters esthetic feels like a scroll through pinterest, look at its concept art and many of the reference pics are literally pulled straight off "grimdark" pinterest results. Its a mismatched conglomerate of historical militaries, anime mechs and modern tactical shooters, all hand waved by having some vague 'post-apocalyptic warzone' setting.

The art is rad as fuck but again, all aesthetics no substance, the lot is meh at best, i remember once reading a Reddit post about the lore of some mechanized unit that kind of looked like a space marine and it was terrible, they made it very specific that anybody could be one, which given the context doesn’t make sense since in those times it was unthinkable for women to fight in wars because they are just too weak; The creators will kill it all by themselves, believe it or not a great part of the community also think the grey morality of the setting is stupid but the creators just won’t hear them, the community is also filled with Christians too, hence why the trench pilgrims and new Antioch principality are the most popular factions, and this clearly annoys the creators by their favoritism with the Muslim and satanic factions. This thing should be handled by someone else to give it some actual good lore instead of the Reddit tier shit they have made.

And the "used the heckin cool Christian aesthetics without understanding Christian thought, morality or worldview" award goes to yet another franchise.

Rape is a powerful narrative tool but its rarely used for a good reason. Which is why instead of stating it outright you should try and imply it at best.
