I believe the increasing disillusionment is just part of growing up. Previous generations had similar complaints. Nostalgia tends to glorify the past as if it were much better than it actually was, where forgotten memories are constantly being reconstructed in a newly skewed rose-tinted lens, leading to millennials we see today becoming manchildren, hoarding '90s physical media, talking about the same exact few franchises for decades to come, while zoomers chase retroslop. Almost every media feels mediocre and subpar as an adult, even classics that were cherished during childhood. All gemmies will eventually become coalies.

Here's another reason why media is so shit nowadays besides the obvious AI slop: Everyone is on their goddamn phones, nobody uses a computer anymore as it's intended to be used.

I don't know I talk to boomers and millennials a lot at my job and even they say they weren't this pessimistic at the future. Previous generations had their anti-establishment moments with Iraq-stuff, The "Free Love" movement, and Occupy Wallstreet but all this stuff was done in the hope that the future would change for the better but not drastically. Zoomer stuff that's "anti-establishment" is all pessimistic because we have the knowledge that all the shit previously mentioned is useless. I don't know about everything else but I (and I'm sure a lot of pessimistic zoomers agree) think that the only thing that could work is some accelerationist larper chud stuff where it ALL falls apart and starts from scratch. I don't think its growing up I think things have genuinely gotten worse new stuff doesn't even get made all the most recent "kino" media is just remakes of shit in the past. all new games are shit. What generation could you say that saw most new media as bad. I mean I guess millennials but I'd argue into the tail end of their generational cutoff.

It's all pessimistic because we're reaching a point where progressivism is starting to show its weaknesses.
And as ex-leftist myself i see them implementing more and more a post-modernist approach because despite blaming capitalism day and night, a market economy of some sort always existed and every attempt to suppress it either result in collapse or a fallback (chinese market reforms).

So the dominant western progressivism is stuck relying on deconstructing things without a real solution for this so called society without inequalities and social justice. So everything that fits in a hierarchy is bad, every standard and gender role is bad, every society with an ethnic dominant group is bad, but they never ask themselves why evolution does not converge towards their ideas of equality, it never does. Even eusocial insects like ants are all sisters from the same mother, their democratic process is very disciplined, tribalistic and imperialistic.

So western leftists are just self-destructing out of cope, they don't even breed anymore and don't want you to breed as well, they hate a world with hard rules.
