>>107401 (OP)I think there is nuance probably. Some of it is good. I liked LOTR and I enjoyed watching Andor. I grew up on classic disney films and I'll probably show them to my kids too if I have them. A lot of nerd media is crap though and I don't touch it. Like the artists you quote, I don't like it when adults build "hobbies" or identities around buying and consuming slop from big companies. I don't think that's healthy.

>>"Nerd culture is the product of a late capitalist conspiracy, designed to infantalize the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control."
No, nerd culture is a product of nerds.
>>"A sweet-faced boy of twelve told me proudly that he had seen Star Wars over a hundred times? I said, 'do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again?' He burst into tears. I just hope the lad, now in his thirties, is not living in a fantasy world of secondhand, childish banalities"
He should have just recommended him a different movie or book.
>>"I don't think they are making [comic book movies] an elevated, I think it's still just Batman running around in a stupid cape.. It's for kids, it's adolescent in its core. "
"Elevated art form" are overrated sence they usually just mean pretentious art. True artistry is found in directing and writing that keeps people invested and/or immersed in work of art. Granted i wouldn't say that modern day super hero movies do this (at least not successfully) but they could if they had talent and vision.
>>"I don't want to see or make films about super heroes that fly around in spandex and a cape solving the problems of the world. I think it's fine for children, children of all ages by the way, but it's not for me."
Based take although super hero stories are more about action and fighting then solving world's problems.
>>“They have been poison, this cultural genocide, Because the audience is so overexposed to plot and explosions and raisin that doesn’t mean nothing about the experience of being human .”
Well those are the thing that actually matter in a story and it's what makes them interesting, nobody cares about what you personally think is "the experience of being human" because that's just your opinion on things and people aren't nessecarlly going to agree with you and even if they do that dosen't make your art interesting.
>>"Superman makes me vomit, Batman and all of that. That whole empire… this religion… It is so important that superheroes suffer… I don't give a damn, I raisin on the United States."
Sounds retarded.
>>"To my mind, this embracing of what were unambiguously children's characters at their mid-20th century inception seems to indicate a retreat from the admittedly overwhelming complexities of modern existence"
Not really because people don't watch or read stories just confront or retreat from reality. Most people just want entertainment for the sake of entertainment and to avoid boredom.
>>"It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!"
Not nessecarlly, they simply prioritize entertainment over other aspects of visual story telling.
>>"The movies are for children but they don't want to admit that… There is a small group of fans that do not like comic sidekicks. They want the films to be tough like The Terminator, and they get very upset and opinionated about anything that has anything to do with being childlike."
