ive been collecting old wheat cent pennies, the gold looking dollar coins, the Eisenhower dollars, and the 50 cent coins. basically any coin that isn't one of the more widely used coins. also old dimes and quarters that were made before they stopped using the real metals in them.

is this a good idea? or am i wasting my time

Old wheat pennies, OK thing to collect. Pure copper so in a worst case scenario the investment should grow per the copper price at least. Plus the pennies are retro soon canceled coins. Beware if you ever have to move in a hurry, the heavy boxes of pennies become a burden and drag you down costing you time.

Pre-1964 dimes, quarters and half dollars always good to stack, these are the 90% silver coins.

Get rid of the Eisenhower dollars and the other coin 'dollars' just spend or deposit them.
