>I disliked the worldbuilding past the halfway point as well.On its surface, and especially in the context of the series god-awful ending, the worldbuilding post-timeskip seems bad with how the outside world is hardly developed at all and given absolutely no depth. EXCEPT that's what was, or I suppose would've been what's so incredibly genius about it. The foundational principle the entire series was based upon was that humans are more irrational than rational, and that's the logic that EVERYTHING is built upon. So, step by step, we see our protagonists enemies go from the mindless titans, to intelligent titans, to corrupt humans, to simply humans who are our enemies, to finding out the entire world is occupied by people consumed with irrational fear and hatred, alongside billions of innocent humans who live there. Then, with the plot twist in the basement, we find out humanity still exists outside of the walls, and that their hatred of Eldians has only festered over the 100 years of solitude. Having the world act as a singular entity is *the point*, that the retarded scouts like Hange and Armin that try to reason with them don't understand, that ONLY Eren understands, which is why every peace plan completely falls apart and makes the scouts look incompetent, why not a single country, despite it being such an important plot point that they all despise Marley, chooses to come to Paradis' aid (Hizuru might seem like an exception or that it disproves this, except they've been under embargo for 100 years simply for once associating with Eldia, and its revealed they literally are just doing it to try and siphon off Paradis' wealth and aren't actually allies). The problem? That was fucking retconned in the ending, so none of the series worldbuilding makes any sense in retrospect and just looks lazy and undetailed. It was such a cool idea, such a cool slow-burn plot-twist, but it all just went to shit.
It would've been perfect had we gotten what we deserved, Akatsuki no Requiem, the ending that the entire series from Season 2 to Season 4 Part 2 was building up towards, but nope. What a tragedy, nearly a decade of following this manga for nothing. I guess this was a good stroll down memory lane for myself.
