How could you forget the best character in the series

 133158[Quote]

>>133137
because it was poorly written for most of it with too many characters that got too little focus, just for all of them to be forgettable and die.

Isn't that the show that has a dyke in it?

>all of them
The show has a lot of problems and you're largely right, but there's the lot of great characters is one of its strong suits imo, even if it has the worst ending of probably any mainstream series or anime. Floch, Zeke, Grisha, pre-retcon Eren, pre-retcon Historia, Reiner, etc are all great.

I disagree, the only characters i remember very much at all were Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Kenny

Levi somewhat as well, that eye patch lady a bit

overall shitty characters, i struggle to find anything good about AOT

Everythings good about it until the rumbling especially the music and animation and we got the biggest BVLL of anime history:

Mikasa is memorable to the extent that she's easily one of the most boring and static main characters I've ever seen. Fucking awful, it's incredible how horrible of a character she is from start to finish.

Armin had a bit of potential in the very beginning, but became static and then completely regressed through the final 1/3rd of the story. Whatever.

Surprised you remember Kenny. He's a good character.

Eren was amazing. The shining gemerald of AOT, had he not had the worst character assassination of any mainstream protagonist, if not of any character in history. It's sickening what Isayama did to him.

Kenny was good.

Levi is mediocre. Almost interesting, a bit, a couple of times, otherwise he's a literal who.

Hange is a shit character.

You should've paid more attention to the side characters. It's kind of interesting in a way (but mostly just bad) that AOT's best characters are all just its side characters.

Yelena is great, horribly underrated, and literally disappears from the story before getting her character arc completed. Pixis is cool. Willy Tybur was really interesting, and underutilized. Jean is the best of the "original main characters", and is the one good character in Season 1.
For the two seconds of screen time they each get, The MP guy that created the shit-eating torture device in S3P1 is cool. Karl Fritz (and by extension, Frieda and Uri) are interesting. Kruger as well.
And obviously there's everyone I listed above in that earlier message.

>i struggle to find anything good about AOT

I think you're just biased. Outside of the story, the visuals and music are incredible. The worldbuilding, outside of the plotholes, is pretty cool. The basement plot twist is easily one of the best plot twists I've ever seen (plot twists are one thing Isayama was actually good at). And, had the ending not been purposefully designed to destroy the series and retcon the internal logic that the entire premise was built upon, it would've been the most right-wing story of the 21st century.

I read the manga and the art was pure dogshit for the entire first half, which is where most the good writing was

 133235[Quote]

>>133226
Kenny was my favorite character because it felt like he was the only person in the entire series that ever made a decision. Eren made some decisions later, but kenny was better

I do not remember a single character you mentioned. You say they had potential, maybe they did. Too bad they were forgettable, and making them shit.

I read the manga and the visuals were fucking ass until half way, and then there were just meh. I disliked the worldbuilding past the halfway point as well. Nothing, i can find almost nothing good about AOT.

TBF the writing in the first half was pretty decent, but the author shit the bed and set the house on fire when he had to write about anything that happened outside the island and it really ruined it.

Well since i said animation and music i'm obviously talking about the anime which had beautiful drawings unlike the manga

Idk man. Even the people I know who hate AOT think the characters I mentioned (Floch, Zeke, Erwin, Reiner, Eren) are memorable. I get the impression that maybe you didn't finish it or something, or just skimmed after the halfway point? Cause even with his too much screentime Levi is just so uninteresting and two-dimensional, and while Kenny is good he really isn't there that long.

>I read the manga and the visuals were fucking ass

Isayama was a fucking horrible manga artist. Before AOT he won an award for a manga he made, and they made a point of describing it as the worst-looking manga they've ever given that award to. That being said, around Uprising arc the art started to look pretty decent, and by RTS it looked good. It peaked right after the halfway point in the story. You also forgot to mention that in the final arc, the art somehow started to get fucking worse right as the writing did, which is hilarious.

On its surface, and especially in the context of the series god-awful ending, the worldbuilding post-timeskip seems bad with how the outside world is hardly developed at all and given absolutely no depth. EXCEPT that's what was, or I suppose would've been what's so incredibly genius about it. The foundational principle the entire series was based upon was that humans are more irrational than rational, and that's the logic that EVERYTHING is built upon. So, step by step, we see our protagonists enemies go from the mindless titans, to intelligent titans, to corrupt humans, to simply humans who are our enemies, to finding out the entire world is occupied by people consumed with irrational fear and hatred, alongside billions of innocent humans who live there. Then, with the plot twist in the basement, we find out humanity still exists outside of the walls, and that their hatred of Eldians has only festered over the 100 years of solitude. Having the world act as a singular entity is *the point*, that the retarded scouts like Hange and Armin that try to reason with them don't understand, that ONLY Eren understands, which is why every peace plan completely falls apart and makes the scouts look incompetent, why not a single country, despite it being such an important plot point that they all despise Marley, chooses to come to Paradis' aid (Hizuru might seem like an exception or that it disproves this, except they've been under embargo for 100 years simply for once associating with Eldia, and its revealed they literally are just doing it to try and siphon off Paradis' wealth and aren't actually allies). The problem? That was fucking retconned in the ending, so none of the series worldbuilding makes any sense in retrospect and just looks lazy and undetailed. It was such a cool idea, such a cool slow-burn plot-twist, but it all just went to shit.

It would've been perfect had we gotten what we deserved, Akatsuki no Requiem, the ending that the entire series from Season 2 to Season 4 Part 2 was building up towards, but nope. What a tragedy, nearly a decade of following this manga for nothing. I guess this was a good stroll down memory lane for myself.

I gave it full attention and all the respect i could when i read it. Levi just had some decent fight scenes and i really liked Kenny for the level of power he held over the story by being a loose cannon, though he was not in the story very long. Perhaps that made him even better

exactly, it's ass, and the rest is cope

I also don't have much issue with the ending, it was a shit ending for a shit story, unsurprising

Wrong. That's not cope, it would've been kino unlike any other story in recent history, and it was absolutely what he originally intended before purposefully torpedoing the series.

And I know what cope looks like, I experienced plenty when all of this went down. There was more cope with AOT than anything else I've ever seen. Yeagerbomb remembers.

I miss AOE. At no point did I ever believe in it, but it was fun to see an ending so mind-numbingly dogshit that tens of thousands of people were brainwashed into a conspiracy cult that it was all part of a 4D-chess plan to reveal the "true ending" that would make it all make sense, that Isayama was secretly setting up clues for them to find or whatever. Good times.
