>>126747It was (the second half), especially in the manga where they not only changed the rule where "humans who use the death note can't go to heaven or hell" to "everyone goes to nothingness" but also changed the scene where that rule was introduced in a flash back at the very end of the story.

this nigga could've been a god and would've won if he just grew up for once.

>>126601I mean, it was supposed to demonstrate Light's narcissism being the one thing that prevented Light from winning. Light hated losing even if it mean losing a battle to win a war. He hated it to the point where it got into his head and that's what made him lose in the end. I agree with you, but judging from how L reacts to being insulted in the first part of Death Note, it probably should've been evident how it would happen if Death Note went with that direction.

>>126754Sorry, when I say "L reacts" i meant "Light reacts".

>>126754I don't know. I think the main appeal of death note's story is that it was a suspenseful thriller that keeps people guessing what was going to happen next. The idea that it could only end a certan way based on the way Light reacted early on in the story goes agains a big part of what made death note so thrilling and good.

>>126753He could have won even with all of his flaws if he simply went with a diffrent strategy. He could have used Mikami as a way to threaten his team into compliance (threaten to kill their families and loved ones) instead of using him to try and kill Near. L also could have played his cards diffrently as well in order to win.

>>128254Yeah, throught the whole story they just kept putting him in suspensful situations that got me thinking "how is he gonna get out of this one" so it's kinda dissapointing to have him lose in the end.

the only problems I had with part 2 is
>near is being an age regressed version of L and xim always curling a strand of hear
>mello always eating a piece of chocolate
I just found it annoying
>Teru saying "delete" like some 'cord mod o algo
I binged most of part 2 so I probably missed out problems other people had with part 2 o algo

>>128816The general problem is that the most appealing aspect of the story was that it was a suspensful thriller that set up the rivalry between Light and L in such a way where it keept people guessing who was going to win by the end. The second half failed to set up such a story and there was nothing else to do with Light's character other then to tear him down. This made it difficul for people to get invested in the story and charcters. The first half was also smaller in scale and that made it easier for the author to write schemes and mind games for the characters.
