Many fast food joints have tried, but few have managed to create a burger that can stand up to the iconic double-decker creation that’s been loved worldwide for decades. You guessed it—we’re talking about the Big Mac.

With its signature formula of “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun,” the Big Mac has been the most popular burger on the McDonald’s menu since it was introduced in 1967. But now, a hot, new contender is stepping into the ring, and it comes from none other than McDonald’s itself.

After all, if there’s anyone who can outdo McDonald’s, it’s McDonald’s.

McDonald’s Launches New Big Arch Burger

Last week, McDonald’s unveiled a massive new burger: the Big Arch. Fans are encouraged to bring their biggest appetites to the counter because this new creation is the largest on the menu right now, and it promises more flavor than ever before.

Designed to “[satisfy] the extra hungry,” this double-decker burger features two quarter-pound, 100% beef patties. Weighing in at an impressive 14 ounces, the Big Arch almost doubles the size of the classic Big Mac, which tips the scales at around 7.6 ounces. Basically, this burger could eat the Big Mac for lunch.

While it may not be quite as staggering as the Double Big Mac—which made a grand return to the menu earlier this year—the Big Arch is now the reigning champion of standard double-patty sandwiches.

Along with the extra-large patties, there are some other key differences between the Arch and the Mac. Instead of the usual single slice of yellow American cheese found on the original, the new burger boasts three slices of white processed cheese. It also features two types of onions: slivered onions and crispy onions—not the rehydrated kind used on most sandwiches.

Naturally, the Big Arch burger couldn’t be topped with Big Mac sauce, so instead, a brand-new tangy sauce was created exclusively for the burger. And for the bun? McDonald’s stepped up its game from a standard sesame bun to one that features poppy seeds as well.

Between the crispy onions, zesty sauce, and extra-beefy patties, this burger sounds not only bigger, but even tastier than the traditional burger—and fans agree, already calling it a “new fave.”

“Hot take but it's way better than a Big Mac!” said one reviewer.

But, before you work up too much of an appetite dreaming of this beefed-up burger, you should know about the catch: right now, it’s only available in two international markets, Portugal and Canada. However, the tests in these locations are looking promising, with fans already begging for a wider release.

“I was in Portugal the week this dropped,” shared one fan. “I had it 3 times that week—it was incredible. It needs to be a permanent menu fixture in the U.S.”

Now, all that extra beef does come with a price tag. The Big Arch is selling for $9.99 CAD, which is around $7.37 USD—over $2 more than a Big Mac. But with almost 50% more meat, that extra couple of bucks seems totally worth it.

While there’s no official word yet on when (or if) the Big Arch will make its way to U.S. menus, we’re hopeful that a successful run in Canada will bring this mega burger stateside. After all, McDonald’s has a knack for turning international favorites into American hits.
