FAQ<What do I need to get started with VR?Either a standalone headset that is basically a phone strapped to your face (Steam Frame, Meta Quest, ByteDance Pico) or a high-end gaming PC and a PCVR headset connected via displayport cable.
Some PCVR headsets (e.g. BigScreenBeyond) require base stations and separate controllers.
<Which stand-alone headset is recommended as of October 2026?Steam Frame, if you can get one.
If you're a poorfag, get a used pico 4 for $250 on ebay.
You can get a Quest 2 for as low as $100, but it has major drawbacks:
- outdated lense technology
- requires a Meta account. for which Zuck makes you undergo a biometric face scan
- the weight distribution is very poor and can cause chronic neck/shoulder pain
- the OS and companion software is a pile of shit and gets worse with every update
- no 6ghz wifi support, so pcvr streaming sucks
<and which PCVR headset?BSB2 if you have $2,000
PSVR2 for $400, plus the adapter
old Windows MixedReality headsets on ebay for $150 or so
