ITT we discuss retro gaming, including old consoles and computers, as well as video games released for those systems.

I love classic DOOM and not much else, old games are lame

I have several retro systems due to retro gaming being my autistic interest as a caca. I have an SNES (that's why picrel), a GBA SP, a bunch of emulator systems and an FPGA microcomputer recreation. I also use my peecee but that's obvious
As for games, I'm hunting down Worms for those systems since the first ones are aryan and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Trve. Try Ship of Harkinian, it's great.

>Classic DOOM
Still good pick, even if you don't like anything else

would you say spending a pretty penny for retro systems is worth it or should people with a low income just stick to emulation for the time being

Get a handheld and mod it for a similar experience. I bought a 2ds in 2022 for like £40 and it can play basically anything up to gba.

For a console, ps3 isnt bad, if you can find a good model.

I dont see any use in buying something from the NES-N64 era unless its a handheld. Its all super easy to emulate. I wouldnt buy any console earlier than the wii/ps3/xbox 360, other than maybe a ps2 to mod o algo.

i was already thinking of buying a psp so i can play pretty much all nintendo 2D retro games + psp games

i'll probably consider buying a ps2. i know its easy asf to softmod & it houses the two generations of playstation games that i actually care about

Do you agree with >>73971 (OP) ?

Can a ps vita emulate psp? Im not too sure. If it can, just get one of those, it will cost a bit more but then you can play some more games. Only do so if you think you will play vita games ofc doe.

A ps2 is a decent starting point and very cheap. Im assuming it emulates all 2d, along with obviously ps1/2. If you prefer nintendo to sony id go with a wii, since they are so cheap, the only difference is that you swap out ps1/2 with gamecube and wii

honestly i have absolutely zero interest in vita games lmao. i cant even name a vita exclusive off the top of my head. for the sake of budgeting i'll probably just grab a psp

>If you prefer nintendo to sony id go with a wii

i'm 99% sure my decade old wii is laying around my house somewhere. if i find it and blow the dust off it then i'll have a large catalog of homebrew in my hands

I was shocked by some of Vectorman's graphics, there's this part towards the end of the game where these TVs show super smooth animation I would have never expected from a Genesis. It was kind of Sega's response to DKC so they tried pushing the Genesis to its limits. It's a fun game with (imo) really good controls that has a lot of natural replay value if you want to get really good at the game. Downsides are the screen being a bit too zoomed in at times and being weak in enemy variety, but I recommend checking it out if it looks interesting to you.

I believe that the vita has native compatibility with psp games but you would need to mod it with custom firmware, and the psp had native compatibility with the ps1 so it may even be the same on vita but i am not sure.

Worms 3D WABAG.

This game is hard as fucking balls, furthest I got was after the "frogger" segment where you are in a cave

I also modded my 2DS and I didn't like how limited it was emulation-wise. The most complex system you can emulate on the old 3DS is Neo-Geo because some smart giga made an emulator for the DS. Without cheating with the DS mode you can play up to GBA, and even then systems like the SNES feel like a compromise. The best emulator I know of for the system is ZXDS (ZX Spectrum emulator) because the resolutions of both systems match and you have a touchscreen keyboard.
Get a used switch 1 and mod it with a modchip if you want a good handheld to mod, otherwise either get those Chinese handhelds with android or go the FPGA and real hardware route.

My counterargument is that many systems offer a lot of cool physical features you just don't get with emulation. The first model of the Genesis/Mega Drive had an audio jack which allows for really good sound for example. Some old computers from the 80s also had commands printed on the keys, and unless you have a cheat-sheet with you at all times, you're just going to confuse yourself.
Modding is also a part of it, but FPGAs exist if you want your consoles to be physical and last long.

I heard a bunch about Vectorman. Is it good? I bought a Genesis/Mega Drive recently and I want to get some games for it. What would you recommend?
>>75341
I actually prefer the old 2D worms (Worms 1 to Armageddon) because I find the 3D aspect to be unnecessary and confusing. Still a gem doe

Same, starting properly when I was 12 but unfortunately just emulation.

I have a PS2 but it ACKed seven years ago and its rests are lowk fucked, I still having the games tho.

What happened to it? Maybe you can revive it

I played a tiny bit of Armageddon years ago and mostly worms revolution. Its decent fun but i dont really think the 3d visuals add much other than distract you.

Worms is truly aryan. I wish my friends actually knew what it was because its a lot of fun multiplayer and singleplayer feels a little pointless.

 â„–75360[Quote]

>>75353
>Worms: Revolution
Aryan because you can customize your worms to look like Hitler.
>Worms is truly aryan. I wish my friends actually knew what it was because its a lot of fun multiplayer and singleplayer feels a little pointless.
True, but on Armageddon you have missions and challenges that unlock a lot of options
