As a consequence you miss out on a lot of content by doing the route and the ending isn't climatic. The weird route is different because you don't miss much content by doing it. The world and characters don't push back in the same way as the genocide route. Weird route ending might also be a "true" or "good" ending in some kind of way. I suspect it'll end with some sort of climatic boss or giant lore reveal, making it necessary to the story in a way genocide wasn't.
There was also the aspect of slowly revitalizing Chara's presence through Frisk and the implications that brought to Chara's character. Chara doesn't have much dialogue in geno, but what is there is interesting. It's more understated than Noelle "I-I-I- w-w-ant t-his, K-Kris… I w-w-want it to s-s-now…" mindbreak bs. That's my explanation for why I don't like the route much. It has a couple decent scenes but it's just not the same.
