No, you can play with a mouse, but it's recommended to use a flight stick; a cockpit replica is not needed.

By default, landing gear and flaps are controlled by the keyboard. It usually doesn't take that long to master controls. It doesn't take as long to learn as DCS (although this depends on how high you put the realism setting on)

I reccomend starting off with VTOL vr with the hotas mod or il-2 sturmovik 1946.

Vr/tracking is a must.

Start with low realism and gradually up the difficulty. If you start with high realism you are just going to crash

I hear the vkb gladiator is a great hotas

IL 2 series games are good enough that 17 years ago Gaijin faggots made their own port and saw how good it was and basically became the prototype for war thunder
