Yep. And Nvidia, Epic, and even AMD enable it. Slop in slop out. The industry doesn't want competent people who are worth paying, it wants disposable jeets with no power. And they're short sighted enough to push some of the cost of game development onto the masses who are genuinely mostly poor in a worsening real world economy. Can most of the masses push hard for a $2,000 GPU once every 5-10 years? Sure, but they need at least one extremely good game every 6 months to justify it, but the jeets, DEI, and nepo hires that now swamp the industry are not capable of making good games.

If I recall correctly some games did it even without copying the room, Deus Ex as example. Back then UE had portals, nowadays it has goy tracing and TroonAA

So from my understanding you make a camera record then project what it sees onto a plane. Assuming the room props and lights are static could you in theory make the camera only render the player character then have the background be an interior map(fancy parallax effect)

The old games were lower resolution but the model and texture direction was more realistic and aesthetically pleasing
Battlefield 1 is an example of an old game that looks better than its modern counterparts
