What's the current state of Civilization 7, and will it even be playable? So many insanely wrong things left me disappointed, irrevocably losing what I had in Civilization 5. It's hard to explain, but Civilization 5 was ideal in terms of its inexplicable immersion and time flow. I simply loved being immersed in the game, experiencing the events, finding them meaningful, varied, and magnificently cinematic.
Civilization 6, at one point, seemed to erase as many elements of immersion as possible, making everything feel like a board game with automated artificial elements. Not to mention the bots that destroy realism and immersion, and a whole decade later, I'm already sick of Civilization 6. So I had high hopes for Civilization 7 until I saw the trailer this summer. (In fact, this event was so important to me that I watched it right away on a stream while walking through a district in my city, and since then, every time I walk through that district, I'm reminded of Civilization 7…)
The problems I've heard about are truly frightening. The proliferation of different micromanagement menus means you rarely see the map and even less often admire your leaders, although the leader menu in Civilization 5 still remains an elusive ideal. Just three eras, slapped together in an absolutely absurd way, as if one had been cut out. It would have been much more logical to make the Middle Ages a separate era, separate the Renaissance and Colonial eras (and yes, they can look fine together, although fragmenting the game itself is absurd and it should be coherent), separate the period from the Industrial Revolution to the discovery of the internet, and create a proper information age starting with the discovery of the internet. I honestly don't know anything about the advantages. This product is supposed to keep us busy for a whole decade, but even the number of leaders is absolutely absurd. There are practically none, and the decision to change nations instead of leaders is completely unnatural.
There are simply no similar projects that can immerse you in a realistic story that you follow. Perhaps only Rimworld, but the Civilization series really has no competitors, which is why such shortcomings emerged.
