If you put disk encryption, use a software that isnt compromised like bit locker since its microjeet, and make sure its one with a duress password that wipes the main disk. Ideally it will open up a separate user account as well, so that the feds dont get too suspicious. I recommend setting it up like you actually used it, make sure you have some basic stuff installed on the duress account like steam and a browser with search history turned off so they cant tell its unnused. Bookmark like 5 things and log into one or two basic sites

>>42612Only do this if you actually need to hide something doe. What do you actually want a disc encryptor for?

>>42613Nothing, really. I’d only do it for the sake of opsec but entering that long ass password every time seems like a hassle

>>42617Get over it. Opsec is more important than convenience and if you sacrifice thr former for the latter you'll get your shit kicked in at some point

>>42618I’m installing Linux right now and it says it uses a LVM with LUKS encryption. Should I just select no encryption then go with bitlocker?

>>42617If you dont see yourself hiding something that could actually get you in trouble on your device than the opsec isn't worth it. Opsec is useful if its online to block trackers for your privacy, but the only people accessing your drive is the feds if they raid your house, and they already know regular personal details and wont find much out from whatever files are in your drive
>>42620If youre installing linux and you want encryption use the linux one. Why would you want microjeets bitlocker on your linux machine? That kills the entire point.

>>42624Good point. By the way, it also asked me if I want to install the recommended proprietary software, third party software for graphics and WiFi, and support for media formats. I’m a newbie in this.

>>42626If youre a newbie its probably best for you to learn what these things actually are. Go do some research on them. Don't download stuff you arent sure of if you care about opsec, especially if it's third party. Installing the recommended graphics and wifi drivers will likely make things easier for you doebeit

What linux distro did you get

>>42628Ubuntu. I thought of fedora and debian but neither of these distros did one thing better than the other for me. Ubuntu just clicked with me

>>42629Honestly not a bad first choice. Debian is keyed imo so all the debian based distros are keyed by association. Mint would have been my go to but whatever better than atarting with arch

>>42632I actually tried mint for a while a few years ago, but I want to learn more about Linux. Everybody refers to mint as something temporary.
