After I wasted an entire day trying to salvage my world view on opensource, I decided to swallow my pride and admit that opensource sometimes cannot compete with actual commercial products in functionality.
>need drivers for wacom tablet
>download opentabletdriver
>easy. one shot the installation process and finish setting up pressure and other shit
>works perfectly fine except for intermittent lapses in responsiveness
>confused, check documentation
>0 results
>after an entire afternoon of searching up shit i give up and ask jeetpt
>it tells me to enable options that doesn't exist
>get mad and install wacom drivers
>works without a hitch
>tfw a driver written by osu troons is completely useless for use case outside of osu
>im on windows 10 btw
The tablet works completely fine on linux's default drivers but since nobody with a sex life cares fan about linux, it's safe to assume that the majority of normies will get buckbroken by random issues on open source software and will thus shut down any notion of experimenting with it, leading to a purity spiral of troons sucking each other off in their project's github repos. If I was smarter I would definitely try to fix this myself, which is the entire point of opensource, but I'm not.
<
With commercial software, they have an incentive to make it function to an acceptable level, before sitting on their arses and counting their money. The only advantage that opensource may have in this aspect is that they will always be progressing and updating, albeit at a slower rate. The only examples of opensource software out-competing their paid counterparts that I know of would probably be Blender, but their development team may as well be an actual studio at this point.
<
But I still hold firm in my belief that opensource can be better, just with the right amount of support and organization. I would rather a simple and free program that does 1 thing really well than a complex and paid program that does 100 things really bad.

>uses unofficial OSUtard _Windows_ driver
>surprised when it's worse than the upstream Linux driver, the Windows Ink driver, AND the Wacom vendor driver
Wow this thread might be bait

I would be a masterbaiter if my effort post is considered bait but Windows Ink is absolutely dogshit

Maybe don't use unofficial drivers you fucking retard. It 'just werks' on Linux because the digitizer software is packed in with the kernel and updated by Linux developers. Whatever bullshit (You) installed is a universal driver for Huion bullshit

I know cunt. I only considered using the osutard drivers because it was opensource and because I was too stubborn to admit that that the official wacom drivers just work.

You should use linux if you care about open-source, windows is not about open-source

>hurr durr I'm computer illiterate and get filtered by PnP drivers therefore Krita is unusable even doe Krita isn't a PnP driver

just ask claude to take the code from linux and make an executable that interprets the device, I did the same for mouse debouncing, just asked free claude to convert some 200 lines of C Linux code into win32 and it worked after the first try.

I plan to when I save up enough for my very own computer
>>41709
What model did you use? I probably only ever used either deepseek or jeetpt but I heard claude works best for code shit

 â„–41712[Quote]

>>41706
if open source is le problem, why is libwacom fine?
No the problem is (You)

 â„–41713[Quote]

>>41712
>libwacom does not make a tablet work. libwacom is merely a database with a C library wrapper for information about a tablet. It has no effect on whether that tablet works.
Either I'm retarded or you're retarded

>>41711
free claude

 â„–41716[Quote]

>>41715
Thanks

 â„–41722[Quote]

libwacom and the digitizer drivers. They're both open source and made by Wacom Inc iirc

You finally fget it nigger and we've all been saying this forever.
Proprietary > FOSS almost always in every category imaginable like UX, UI and functionality.
Only Blender is the exception, it's the only FOSS program that's on par with its proprietary counterparts (Maya, 3DS max, etc) and it was just as trashy until recently (I know because I tried to use Blender in 2012 and immediately gave up).
We need more people like you seriously.
