Am I literally the only nigger on earth who despises this? It's not like i486 which was a dead architecture, it's just regressing perfectly valid use cases in a way that is now almost impossible to undo. What about single core microkernel VMs? Function as a service? Cases where a hypervisor does core scheduling? Microcontrollers and embedded things? This also includes a ton of i686 processors. Stuff like printers and CCTV systems could still use a modern kernel and are exactly the kinds of devices you need to avoid regressions for.
