it works like a normal vpn with some protocols to get around vpn blocking
albeit its not opsec, since it collects data i wouldn't use it for anything illegal. if the hammer ever comes down they wouldnt hesitate to hand over said data to them
its fine to use as a free vpn if ur public school wifi is obsessed with what u go on and ur paranoid of them finding out u are a chud
