What embedded programming is like (commercially)? I remember I used to do some things with Arduino. And my question is that any more interesting than just a bunch of ifs like if distance that I get from this sensor (that comes with all libraries) is less than x then call this library function to make sound? Or is it just Arduino way and it's somehow different in commercial embedding?

Timers and interrupts are an important part. Sometimes a real-time OS is used to manage different tasks on the controller. Other than that it's just normal C/C++ programming.
