Imagine, a new regex handling programming language, with a name that is safe for the family.
ASK, removing the W as it stands for (((Weinberger)))
<Kinorald nameroll though for one of (((them)))
The S of course stands for: snappy_vvqn_sed_cacas_lost
It makes sense, when you regex for something you have the question of "where is this?" or "what is this output?".

Discuss; what would you name it? what features would you add to the language?

Two patches that would be cool: Built in color support, libraries that can be toggled in BEGIN {lib json} as an example, that give you abilities like those in jq for instance.

awk sucks even for what people say it doesn’t suck at
>it’s good for crunching numbers but not scripting or programming
No its not, doing out of line order stuff is hell, I’d rather just use arrays

Awk has nothing to do with the editor you use to make Awk files in. This is a very retarded thing to say

I have no idea what you are talking about but if you want to use libraries in an awk program you just include them with -f. All -f parameters are treated as one program. Gawk has a envvar for a path to default awk files for this purpose and I think @include too but I’ve never suffered Awk enough to try them

nigga what’s is you talking about, Awk has nothing to do with regex by default

It's good for regular expressions / parsing data
what do you use instead?

I mean to color output, most terminal probably has 8 bit color support
>I have no idea what you are talking about
certain programs exist for parsing the file structure / syntax various formats, like xml, json, html even, if their were ask libraries that had these capabilities, (there are some), then this would be (key) as that would reduce the programs you need and consolidate workflows; you could parse the json and pass the output to the regular awk in the same thread, without piping to another program

uwot?
