I've been learning 'oxing for around a year now, and have done a few successful 'oxes just myself. The only major 'oxing thing I haven't touched yet is hashes. Can somephono explain what I should do with them? Thanks.

somebaldi was cracking the weak ones with jack the ripper or something

it depends on the password length really and the characters that could be used in it + hashing algorithm

md5 sha1 raw sha256 you could technically crack if the password is weak enough but for something like a 12 char full ascii password it would take you thousands of years most likely and bcrypt and argon2 use key stretching which makes it take way longer to hash

fastest way is to probably just use a wordlist of leaked passwords etc and use something like hashcat or john the ripper that use your gpu and if this fails just manually try to crack the password

password cracker
hash is how sites store passwords
instead of plaintext, which would be secure as literal shit, it is put through a hashing algorithm to make it so the password is just a bunch of wordswordswords that can't be used if found in a databreach

People who need to make a post on the internet asking what to do with hashes are fundamentally mentally retarded and should be put down like dogs

Fuck you you stupid faggot. I've spent the last two days reading basically everything there is to know about hashes, have installed and used john the ripper and hashcat, hunted down some good pass dictionaries, and while teaching myself to do this found it extremely tedious and annoying - Youtube tutorials are crap, everything outside of the hashcat wiki itself is dated, and even for being fairly tech-literate myself, there was still quite a bit I didn't understand. So no, this was actually a completely reasonable thing to ask about. Even a response as simple as the one from the 'teen that recommended hashcat and john the ripper probably saved an hour or two.

what're your specs op?
gpu wise i guess
