I guess if I'm being less inflammatory, what I really mean is that the right to repair movement is not really pro-rights at all, it's anti producer rights. It's lobbying for the consumer's unequal right to subpoena information from producers of goods or worse, force them to produce and sell things against their will. This is anti-property powers that even the government is generally not granted and against the founding principles of not just a free market but capitalism itself.

Imagine if you were making a product and some IAS wanted you to sell a bespoke part at a fixed price, and since you can't produce enough of to meet demand and sell your actual product at a reasonable price, you go bankrupt. Or since someone can't figure out how to diagnose a (possibly self inflicted) problem, they want you to release circuit diagrams with trade secrets.

If complete openness in schematics and selling replacements is the way forward, you must prove it economically. I think the DIY electrical measuring equipment is quickly blazing this path. There are a few software projects that add modern functionality to old oscilloscopes as well as new ones that are low end or lock software features behind paywalls by feeding data into an external computer. CERN released schematics for a very high performance DMM just because they are betting on help from tinkerers and other interested parties making it better (and more importantly cheaper!) than a contract. Make what happened to 3D printers happen to everything, and better. The only way to fuel this is demand, and demand is created by things that are shitty when people want better. "Right to repair" is setting for less.

The solution is not a top heavy tax scheme, but lowering taxes by more than an order of magnitude. Then IMO you put a flat income tax and nothing else but tbh the implementation is almost irrelevant if taxes were at a sane level
