you could use any debian based distro, and then just add the kali repositories. i think it's less cringe that way. when i hear people say they use kali i imagine it being installed on a gigantic alienware gaming laptop and it's really icky

geg yeah kali has had it reputation raped by skids. Ideally it should just be a package set because Kali doesn't even do anything special like virtualization or with networking

open/etc/apt/sources.list in a text editor, google "kali linux repositories", add the repos in there, run an apt update to fetch the new packages, then you can use apt install -t <whatever the kali repo is called> <package>. or you could just not do that, since a lot of the programs people use in kali are actually in the ubuntu and debian repos anyway…
