i think the saddest i have been for a rat was my first rat kill when i had to kill a rat trapped in a glue trap. My siblings and mother were freaking out and grandpa was off doing stuff, so i took the trap with the rat still attached and i just kept observing it every second of me hesitating was a second where that rat was suffering and i could not stay for too long else mother would get concerned. i kept walking in circles while having no idea what to do. The moral dilemma was too much for young me to handle. Do i let it live and make it suffer a horrible horrible death of slow starvation while also disappointing my family or do i kill it now and end its suffering and go back to be praised by my family? I had no idea how i would even kill it but then i heard mother call out my name so i had to act quick. I picked up the largest rock i could carry as a child and dropped it on the poor fella. He died instantly and thankfully it wasnt a gory mess. I went back to my family sad and they teased me for being a coward.
