The highest form of homesteading is castle-kraft. So no, not all and not necessarily.

>" how to butcher a cow is more important than the Pythagorean theorem"
Correct for 99% of the population that doesn't need to use that theorem at work or in everyday functions.

The pythagoras theoream is the basis for all engineering practices. Hell even for rural things like wood cutting its important.

It being used by scientist in the past or in the present does not mean that everyone needs to grasp it or use it in every day practices.

There are a shit ton of jobs where you will need basic math knowledge like the Pythagoras theorem. And there are also everyday uses

Carpenters don't even need to do math on paper most of the time, they just use carpenters tricks and shortcuts that the practical side has. My point stands.

Your point however can be expanded to "we should double down on math education in k-12 to smarten the kids up and make them appreciate math more". I can see this expanding into doubling the math curriculum until calculus in highschool is part of the lowest level routine.

But would all that be necessary? Do human resources need this? Do nurses need this? Do farmers need this? No.

The basic principles of shit like the Pythagorean theorem and basic algebra are actually pretty handy in a lot of ways to the average person. Just because it's not being used in the context of a math problem doesn't mean the skills don't come up
