No. Xi has personally fired a ton of top military officials.

Now that I am done watching more of his talks, I can respond properly:
https://inss.ndu.edu/Research-and-Commentary/View-Publications/Article/4418691/why-is-xi-still-purging-his-generals/
It's linked by a US think tank and published by an organization under a staunchly anti-communist man (Minxin Pei).
It seems to provide an argument as to why, which you have not provided.

Also, why does he only need to consolidate power in the military? Why doesn't he personally purge officials of all categories this much?

I'll comment on China's growth too.
Originally the USSR gave them info, intel, and tech. The USSR did their first development (thinking wise while the chinese did the footwork). Then Deng Xiaoping reformed and opened up China. Foreign investment moved in, a lot from USA too, (this is when democracy and capitalism from abroad developed china, money from democracies did the financial work, chinese people did the footwork). The only Merit of chinese communist growth is foreign to begin with. But kudos to disliking the CIA and whatnot.

Every politician wants to be remembered for something, top communist officials are always heavy handed. They want to be remembered as the best. Depending on what exactly the corruption is, which can be a lot… They will literally PURGE someone out, even if it's political disputes because communists have to band together in theory.

The military has to be absolutely loyal to the current leader of the CCP and the Party itself. If they are more loyal to a different member of the party, then there are issues.
