"Manufacturing, technician, production, operator" Some of the results on here that I'm looking at for Virginia, show salaries starting at 21/hour, some up to 28, some up to 42. Lowest entry level is highschool but they also mention 1-2 years experience.
For you, if your area does not have "factory" work, which can be a simple 1 station job with great overtime possibility even at a lower salary, then I would recommend searching for the "adult education" centers near you. These often times have websites and offer you a chance to look at what programs they offer. Granted some of these are not free, but I know of some that are basically medical equipment cleaner "120 day course and training, and it's like $4,000" worth it because it's a hospital job that can make 50-80k a year depending on where you are at.
You have to look around, and you have to examine what is available. Some nursing degrees are free if you had straight A's in high school, a hospital will literally pay ur tuition and then pay for you to go to school with a monthly stipend. The military does that too but only after you finish honorably. Mil also does the reverse with an officer program called ROTC, it first pays for your college but mostly just tuition, and then you are obligated to complete a contract of active duty, but then you can leave that and be active duty in your state national guard, or part time 1 weekend a month in your state), or just completely leave, or finish your 20 years, or even do your 40 for a boosted retirement.
