>Shock and dismay this Monday at Joseph-Lakanal Middle School in Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhone). A ninth-grade student managed to sneak into the school carrying a hunting rifle. He had concealed the weapon in a guitar case, according to the president of the departmental council. Once inside the school, he fired lead shot at two members of the teaching staff, hitting one in the legs and the other in the buttocks. "He opened fire on both the middle school principal and a teacher, who were taken to the hospital and sustained minor injuries," said Jacques Witkowski, prefect of Bouches-du-Rhone, in the TF1 news report featured at the top of this article. According to our information, the student was quickly subdued by a school counselor before being handed over to the authorities.
