I guess thats why the concept of battle rifles died out, millitary realized that most engagements dont happen that far out, smaller cartridge=carry more ammunition and larger magazines

Yes the US and western militaries learned a lot from the engagements of WW2, which is what led to the lmilitary developing super small and fast rifle ammunition. If you have ever held a 556 round it is unbelievably small
