If I were to switch over to Linux as my daily drive, which distro would be the best for my needs? I just need something to write my documents in peace and play some random bullshit games. Also something good for opsec reasons.

 β„–4208182[Quote]

install gentoo

 β„–4208185[Quote]

my neighbor uses linux

 β„–4208186[Quote]

Alternatively, would FreeBSD be a good choice or too much of a larp?

think twice then, maybe you dont need troonix

 β„–4208209[Quote]

Use mint if first time using linux because it was made for beginners. I recommend playing around a bit and if you feel comfortable you could switch to something else or even stick with it.

 β„–4208214[Quote]

Mint was ok when I used it
better than jewbuntu which I first tried in 2023 and it was ass

So then would a dualboot of FreeBSD and Windows be a good choice? I just want something that doesn't constantly track me while I do simple shit like my paperwork.

This is how I feel about it, too, it was fun switching over, playing around and being free from winjooz, but it didn't quite suit my needs so I switched to fedora KDE and had a pleasant time with it, then I adopted tiling wms and switched my gaming pc over to linux, too, cachy that time because I heard it was le goyming distro

Never touched that shit on purpose
Fedora is a better generalist, kinda modern kinda stable distro

Your non-existent opsec is already raped every single day, I understand keeping opsec for the sake of stopping obsessed troons from doxing you or something, but if a big corp or state want to find you they will nigger, and I doubt Microsoft is handing out personal information to any non private entity so you're probably fine.

I dunno about that. Regardless I want to improve my opsec anyways. So I'll just continue looking around.

>>4208252
I don't know to be fair, oldfags who use their computers for writing emails maybe, mint probably exists simply as a staple for windows migrants so they can get comfortable with linux then switch to something else, it is very generic and oldschool which is not a bad thing but the type of people who even consider linux probably want to tinker and optimize their systems

Parrot OS is another pentesting distro, its not secure

 β„–4208304[Quote]

There's only way it'll go.

You're worried about microslop spying on you.
So you'll switch to something mainstream like ubuntu, possibly your first time installing an OS.

You will be shocked by novelty. Everything is different. Everything is new. You will become drunk with novelty. And it's bad.

You will soon learn, from other users, that Ubuntu isn't that good. Not every distro uses snap packages. Not everything is owned by Canonical. It's not truly free. So why not switch again?

You will want to switch again. After all, you already did this the first time, why not again?

You will try debian. You will try Fedora. You will try shit like OpenSUSE. You will learn about package managers. There are even some dark worlds on the horizon, like Arch and Gentoo, which tempt you.

You will find yourself manually visiting distrowatch.org, using only FOSS suckless soffware made by trannies for trannies. You became addicted to distrohopping. Your main librebooted thinkpad runs Nix OS with a thrembollion long config file while all your other machines saily install some new shit like Exherbro OS or whatever. Instead of using any useful proprietary software or coding something for people to use you argue on twitter about Rust and gobble Linus torvalds balls everyday.

Maybe, you'll get tired of this shit. Maybe, you'll realise, that every distro is the same, that they branch from the same sources, use the same PMs, same desktop manager that still krash, or that they all are just compie and build your own bullshit constructor like Gentoo.

Some of them try to be like windows. Some of them try to be different. But none of them feel natural. They are all bootleg. Because troonix is not an OS to use. It's a hobby. To waste your time on.

No.

 β„–4208345[Quote]

Also OP you will probably not enjoy using more niche operating systems if you only have experience with windows.
My advice is find a mainstream beginner-friendly linux distro (I recommend Mint but Fedora, Ubuntu etc. are good too) and if you like it there stay or switch to another operating system (you could also consider BSD here) or if you don't like it being more difficult to use or if libreoffice or openoffice or whatever is not a good alternative to ms word than go back to windows.
>>4208304
This is a bit leaky but yeah this is a real pipeline, tinkering is a hobby and linux is good for tinkering, you don't need to tinker but you said here you like programming and computer so you will probably start to tinker with your system.
