>Does freedom really exist, in a sense that we are all a slave to something?

>Be it a slave to god and his commandments or a set rules that's beset by the idea of law

>Is my thinking not a result of the geography of my origins? My face? Stature? Height? Was this all predetermined?

>And as a result of this my character itself was predeterminned.

>Could you really consider this freedom when it was a foregone conclusion?

>What do u think?

Freedom does not equal being free from responsibilities, we need to sustain ourselves and in order to do that we end up infringing on our own freedom for our own good or people that rely on us, it's just how it is. But I do demand freedom of speech and the right to defend myself against anyone will it be in a legislative or non legislative setting.

These responsibilites are assigned to us by an authority, these responsibilities are social values in which we're expected to follow, some may protect, but many can hinder too.

Taxes in need of settlement might be assigned to us by an authority but in primitive times there was a need for food gathering so to sustain a tribe/clan, so there was this selected group who would go gather said resources in order to survive, the fact that you couldnt sleep all day makes it so that we have to infringe on our own freedom in order to live

Yes, but could it not be said that we are nothing but a slave to our desires and senses?

If we were to define freedom as it is the power or right to speak, act, and change as one wants without hindrance or restraint

Could it be said that we are not truly free to do whatever we please, as of what you said is a consequence stemming from choosing pure freedom?

Could it truly be considered freedom if you have responsibilities?

 â„–4193039[Quote]

Would freedom and responsibilites not be adjunctive in a way that one must perform the necessary prerequisites in meeting A in order to experience a limited version of B

If so then I don't believe true freedom actually exists.

I guess the fact that there is a consequence to every thing we do is in fact pure freedom, I couldn't live in a world where my actions don't have consequences as that would mean they wouldn't have value or weight in the world, standing around doing nothing for centuries without anything happening as ridding myself of responsibilities would mean I'm technically immortal, is the same as not doing anything for three days and dying, I find no difference in them at all. Societies have taken it upon themselves to evolve in order to better their situations, if there was no desire or sense we wouldn't have changed thus not having freedom in the end due to our limited understanding

Wow, this really scratched my brain!

Would you define consequences as just B occuring as a result of A?
Say I killed a woman and I was never punished for it, does it truly matter whether or not I am punished for it? I still killed her but nothing came out of it, or maybe something did and it was satisfaction

>doing nothing for centuries without anything happening as ridding myself of responsibilities would mean I'm technically immortal, is the same as not doing anything for three days and dying

I don't know if they are the same thing, maybe if you were immortal you could truly consider yourself free as you have the freedom to do absolutely nothing without a consequence in contrast to not doing anything for three days and dying.

How would u define value? as worth in usefulness or importance to the possessor; utility or merit?

Would that not be the opposite?

If be it so genes and heritability influence
neuroticism
extraversion
openness to experience
agreeableness
conscientiousness

Then could you consider your own values as freedom? Could you change these ideals or who you are?

Wouldn't it be considered deterministic to have who you are as a person decided by nature itself?

 â„–4193157[Quote]

We are slaves to nature and to our own ego actually. Think about it: your biology forces you to eat, to drink, to sleep, etc. and your mind forces you to act on impulses and suffer a variety of unwanted emotions.

>Say I killed a woman and I was never punished for it
Consequence does not entail just punishing you, but also everyone around the person you've hurt, as a very social species humans work with each other every day and socialize, it's fair to assume that the woman you killed might have had children later on and you killed them too, it's a long term consequence, there used to be a time where proto-human population was in the hundreds, if someone died there that would mean hundreds of lines of generations gone down the drain that we don't even think about, what if the neanderthals hadn't gone extinct? We would be completely different looking now as their bone structure is heavily different from ours.

>How would u define value?

I would define it as what we create in a society, we may not see it but the singular people like you and me can influence a lot of other people in a lifetime, and other people influence others as a result, we are a collective as we work like that, without need we don't share/influence other people and we stay still, nomadic tribes followed the orders of the singulars and explored the earth and settled, creating their own cultures and their own ethnicities in the process.

>Wouldn't it be considered deterministic to have who you are as a person decided by nature itself?

Unfortunately we are bound to where we are born and as who we are in our upbringing, sometimes I wonder how many people die early who could have really changed our lives, but that's just the way it is unfortunately so I have no clear idea on that
