>>4173018It's interesting. Not everyone speaks french, but the people who do speak it very fluently, and english very fluently. They speak french amongst each other when possible. Because I am from Ontario, we have mandatory french education from grade 4 to grade 9, but I continued until grade 11. My french is not super great conversationally, despite this, so I still speak to those french-speaking groups in english, but I can understand them to a moderately high degree

In ontario, there are franco-ontariens but they are sparse and separated. There are some schools which offer education in french immersion, and I knew a few people who went to them for a while, usually until high school. In New Brunswick, the french culture is suprisingly. strong, there are even entire universities dedicated to french. In fact, the Universite de Moncton is a french university, although only 28% of the city is french by mother tongue, 50% of residents are fully bilingual

>>4173076I'm not sure actually. I know that there are considerable difference between the 2 and the Franco-Ontariens, in their general mindset, which shows up as linguistic differences. If you thought quebecois have a stick up their ass, then you don't know the acadians yet. Their language is more archaic. It actually is the main reason it's hard for me to understand. For some reason, they teach us proper french in ontario instead of any north american variety. Franco Ontarien is basically the same as quebecois

Aren't Canadians mostly Slant Eyes, Jeets, SEA Monkeys and Pakis though? Why would you speak either English or French?

upon researching further, apparently their relations have become more strained ever since the quiet revolution and quebecois separatist sentiments became more popular, as before, their shared french speaking and catholic identity was what united them, but it's become weaker in recent times
