Government influence in the free market has consistently proved to be catastrophic to the quality of life of the average person. The reason is because every person and their mother wants money, and as such will make decisions that will lead to them making more money or spending less money. Due to this, the free market is surprisingly efficient and responsive to global phenomena, always looking for high quality goods and services at competitive prices. This pattern of human behavior incentivizes businesses and corporations at providing the best value composition to the consumer, balancing quality with price in order to sell enough products to turn a profit and continue existing. Capitalism isn't perfect, but it's perhaps the only economic system in the world which funnels self centered interests in such a way that society improves. Under capitalism, the name of the game is simple: provide something that brings value and you will become rich, it doesn't get simpler than that. This perfectly delicate system is completely uprooted with government intervention. In the case of welfare, which is supposed to serve as a temporary safety net for people trying to get back on their feet after an unfortunate event (being laid off, for instance), is used as an alternative to working, where lazy people are provided food stamps at the cost of the taxpayer and never seek to improve their quality of life. In the case of rent control, the reason rent is so expensive in pretty much every Western country is due to government zoning laws, NIMBYs and bureaucracy which artificially restrict competition and increase prices. In a free market, landlords are technically free to put whatever price they want on their apartments, but due to the overwhelming choice that the consumer has due to having more choices, they are incentivized to keep their margins thin so as to remain competitive. If you were renting an apartment and one day you decided to jack of the price 300%, do you seriously think anyone would continue to rent there? By jacking up the price, you actually make less money than before because now no one wants to live there. I find it laughable that you think education and healthcare at free. The truth is that your taxes pay for those things, not just your education and healthcare but everyone else's, too. You're not even getting a good deal, either, the healthcare and education that you do end up receiving is profoundly underwhelming, because at the end of the day, the government has zero incentives to provide anything of value. Under capitalism, everyone has a reason to provide value. The only reason governments of the past were seemingly better than today's governments is because there was a better culture back then. There was an emphasis on community, religiosity, which neoliberalism sought to destroy.

It becomes insanity when everything the end purpose of everything, the entire purpose of life becomes profits over all.
Mass immigration is caused by this, when profit is a greater purpose than everything else, decrease expenses as much as possible.
A way of decreasing expenses is importing cheap foreign labor, increasing net profit, and when companies see other companies doing this they copy because capitalism incentivizes not falling behind other companies.
The free market is definitely great, but at a certain point, existance and life just cant be simplified to profits and money
>the reason rent is so expensive in pretty much every Western country is due to government zoning laws, NIMBYs and bureaucracy which artificially restrict competition and increase prices
Yeah this is weird, the west embraces the free market and capitalism so much but the one big expection is housing, making housing insanely expensive there, why is housing the expection?

There is no free market in the west. It's much more akin to the mercantilist nation-states of absolutist Europe.

Government intervention in the form of welfare ultimately comes out to entail the addition of some inefficiency in the running of the broader macroeconomy in exchange for money being siphoned off to the middle and lower classes, and therefore it does benefit the average person more than a fully free market would, unless the inefficiency caused by the intervention becomes so great as to result into a sufficient amount of damage to the broader macroeconomy to the point it ends up hurting the average person despite the welfare benefits more than the intervention-free alternative would've, thereof becoming no longer favorable according to the rational interests of this average person. The conclusion being that it is in the interests of the average person for a limited form of welfare to exist and there's no reason why they should care about the macroeconomy up to intervention becoming excessive as to reaching the margin previously discussed. Though some people might argue that the existence of any amount of intervention at all immediately reaches this margin which is an absurd proposition in my opinion

Nope, mass immigration is not the cause of that. In a truly free-market society, there is no social welfare, people do not get anything to just be because there is no self destructive empathy that led people to house entire communities of immigrants that will never assimilate. There is nothing about immigration unless you are really obsessed with a certain country, which would at most just make for 0.01 percent of immigrants at most, people naturally try to be around others like them, thats why they form communities that feel like their home in other countries (somali neighborhoods in minneapolis).

There is nothing natural about immigration* I meant to say.

Somalis in the USA with their own communities in a truly free market society would have not much more shit than Somalis in Somalia lol. It's not like IT jobs or engineering jobs don't exist in Mogadishu, they just want free welfare. If anything, Somalia is directly at the coast next to the Indian ocean, where all the manufacturing countries are, if they wanted to buy something from the outside it would probably be cheaper than shipping over half the world and in rivers to minneapolis.

He's talking about the profit motive behind support for poopskin immigration, which is that a larger work force means more wage competition which means firms can pay lower wages.

If the government wasn't stealing from the populus to collectivelly support immigration, those companies that actually want this cheap labour would have to invest into migrants by buying them houses and such themselves. It instantly becomes much less viable and much less profitable.

As you pointed out in op, housing isn't actually that expensive to develop in the absence of regulatory burdens.

There's no such thing as a free market free of government influence. Property rights and contract enforcement are themselves government interventions in the state of nature.
