Was Nietzsche an anarchist or, at the very least, very sympathetic to the idea of a stateless society? I know he was your standard Prussian conservative in his earlier years, but I mean later on.

It would make sense considering his views.

He's really difficult to pin down. His stated views can reasonably be invoked to support anything from late 19th century American anarcho-individualism to a Machiavellian empire as far as I can tell.

The dominant form of movement anarchism was, during his time, collectivist anarchism. Obviously he would want to disassociate from it as then understood. What do you call someone who is both anti-state (as Nietzsche was) and pro-hierarchy (which the vast majority anarchist at the time decidedly weren't)?

 â„–4141935[Quote]

He purposefully avoided taking a clear political stance.

He said no one has obligations to anyone else and contracts can only be enforced either via brute force or simply not doing business with the person any more. He also spoke of a "Union of Egoists" that one could voluntarily opt into as a sort of insurance in such events, such a union being bound by mutual-interests.

 â„–4141946[Quote]

He in part supported the Indian caste system but also criticized it because he thought it created resentment amongst the lower classes who were permanently and shamefully marked as inferior. So perhaps in his dream system the lower classes are somehow convinced through manipulation or compensation to accept their status while still dividing society into a superior aristocracy and inferior working men, but this is just how I see it.

Nietzsche used "anarchism" like most did during the 19th century. He had similar things to say of "liberalism" as a pre-Industrial revolution ideology.
Nietzsche on the state, in his middle-ish period, what you could call ""me and my friends should have all the power and everyone else should die" + his anti war stance and explaining how some private interest is maximized though more war, which you might enjoy. Very proto-Meritocrat Nietzsche.
The 3rd one is him on the Pan-European question and against petty-nationalisms, he liked Russia for it's size and tuff aura.

Is the first excerpt from when Nietzsche was still conservativev

 â„–4142207[Quote]

I don't know, he comes off as quite elitist to me.

 â„–4142247[Quote]

>>4142203
I never called him a conservative. This was during his break with Wagner and his more positiv-ism turn.
You don't have to put philosophers into autistic boxes like this, especially when you haven't read them yet. Why don't you read it and form your own opinion

 â„–4142269[Quote]

H. L. Mencken called the strand of "anarchism" he philosophized "Nietzsche" and also "elitist" iirc. But I haven't actually read him other than only a few of his newspaper articles
