Despite what you might expect, the Dutch Patriottentijd era had Jews strongly on the side of the Orangists (centralizing, conservative monarchists) and not the Patriots (classical liberal republicans in favor of the old confederal system and opposed to the monarchist ambitions of then stadtholder William V). This Jewish support was shared among both the labouring Jewish population and the elite population of Sephardic Portuguese Jews. Only when the "aristocratic" faction of the Patriots (classical liberal republican confederates) were displaced by the "radical" faction (wannabe Jacobins who supported the unitary, strong state Batavian Republic) did the Patriots gain Jewish support. The reason being the "radical" Patriot supporters of Napoleon's unitary client state gave Jews full full civic emancipation.
