He targeted the teenage youth wing of Norway's globohomomaxxed party, basically their WEF young leaders. His massacre kicked the legs out from under their efforts in his country for a generation. I'm not endorsing what he did but despite his secondary attack failing and a lot going wrong he likely accomplished what he set out to do.
For that alone an example must be made of him. Its not just that he killed a lot of young people it's who they were too. If he were released and went on to Varg it up with a young wife and a gaggle of blonde kids the optics would be devastating. He'll rot forever, by any means available to the Norwegian system.
