I personally support the reintroduction of large predators into my home state, if only to re-stabilize the ecosystem. Bringing wolves back to Yellowstone in the 90's did wonders for the park- even for the deer they preyed upon, because a controlled deer population allowed vegetation to grow back.

Farms are usually built on the edges of towns and cities because the centers of cities are usually the oldest and most developed. Anyway, forest is easy to clear away for new farmland, towns and cities aren't. Protecting farms by keeping them out of the fringe of civilization would require really careful urban planning, as well as room for the farms to expand.
