How the fuck do I stop my computer from auto-updating to Windows 11? I am being given no option to refuse the update and I don't want my computer to automatically download more ugly, useless spyware but I don't think I can do anything to prevent it.
>inb4 take the pinkpill and switch to linux you cissoid incel techphobe
I don't want to go through the process of moving my files or risking some sort of incompatibility with a different OS and I don't like having to adjust to new circumstances.

Backup your files on an external hard drive then bite the bullet and switch to something like Debian or Zorin.

Just update the computer whenever an update is available. If you try to put a stone-wall between updates, one day Microaryan will force one through and shut down your PC immediately as opposed to waiting for your lard ass

I'd rather have less spyware than more, but to be honest, the opsec is a secondary concern compared to the ugliness and bloat.

Would you consider linux difficult to navigate for a beginner moving from Windows? I don't really care that much about muh gaming optimisation because I hardly play vidya these days and when I do it's usually just shitty indie titles

Back up your stuff and try to find a Windows 10 LTSC .iso online, it's basically the best of both worlds in that you get rid of the useless annoying stuff without becoming a linuxcaca or running some shady script. Kinda hard to find though. Good luck.

i raped my installation by fucking eith regedit. i forgot what it was i did exactly since it was 2 years ago but you could try looking up 'disable update win10 regedit', just make sure to back up your shit nigger. a 2tb external drive isn't too expensive compared to what it's worth.

Depends on the os. It's not like you'd be installing Slackware. Zorin, Mint, and to a slightly lesser extent something like Debian are all easy enough to learn for beginners.

linux is pretty easy for the most part and you can get help from ai or google with the terminal and anything else until you get used to it
you can completely avoid using the terminal if you want, there are alternatives

 β„–4019349[Quote]

when i switched from windows to linux i went straight to debian (switching to devuan soon) and i got used to it in a few days

I groomed wintoddler a into switching over and he still has his Linux Mint installation from over 8 years ago.
If you're not sure what to use, check Mint and pick whatever edition of it seems pleasing.
The only difference between the editions is what the GUI looks like out-of-the-box and how much resources it takes.
If you have Virtualbox or any other virtualiziation software installed, spin the .iso on that before burning it onto an USB so you can poke around more easily before committing.
Keep in mind the performance is bad when running from the .iso but it'll give you the general idea what the installation is going to look like.
CachyOS is based on Arch and seems simple to use for beginners or whatever that even means nowadays but I still wouldn't recommend it over Mint.
If you want your shit to "just work" after installation with minimal fiddling, go with Linux Mint.
I have been a sysadmin for trade for around eleven years now and down to answer any questions you might have.
No arrow because I look like that but I don't use Arch

There isn't that much of a difference.
Cinnamon is their flagship edition but I personally prefer XFCE.
Download them both and look around in a virtual environment or through a LiveUSB.

KDE might be the most modern of them all doe in terms of out-of-the-box appearances.
