I think that a big difference between the matchajak stereotype and the more traditional soyboy that a lot of people don't talk about is religious worldview.
The soyboy tended to be quite accepting of all worldviews, (that weren't heckin bigoted), and as a result tended to adopt at best a spiritual worldview or at worst an atheist one.
Matchajak is different, however. Tolerance does not accurately describe him the same way it would to soyjak. Altruism would be better. His belief in helping ethnic minorities and especially women come from his progressive understanding of Christianity, one that has its roots in the conservative non-denom culture of the 2010s that Soyjak was opposed to. But here, Matcha has taken the "positive" elements, such as egalitarianism, and left the "problematic" elements, such as opposition to homosexuality. His religion tends to usually be spent dismissing other Christians as bigoted, and always preforming a dance for his atheist/irreligious friends, similar to the coon archetype in Black America. Hence why they are often called performative males.

Strictly speaking, soyjaks are meant to (or at least used to) describe the soyboy archetype, AKA a mindless consuming, soylent drinking, soulless vessel. In spite of the fact that Matchajak's behaviors are indeed slightly different than, say, Plier, he still fits the archetype of mindless consumer. You think buying overly priced Matcha drinks from Starbucks is not befitting of a soulless, consuming vessel? Yes, he carries more hatred than the standard variants, but it still fits.

I think that how said soullessness has manifested itself has changed in the past few years, and I think religion is one of them

Has it? I doubt someone as soulless as the original soyjaks are religious. IIRC, the wiki states that they are "optimistic nihilists", AKA absurdists, AKA "Just consoooom and don't think about life too much". I don't know much about Matchajak, but judging from his smugness and overall appearance, I'd say his personality is more like "smug atheist" rather than "absurdist". It's still in line with the mindless consumer profile, just from a different lens that still fits in the archetype.

You make a good point in your statement, but the irl matchajaks I know in real life generally tend to be Christian to some extent.

Usually when I see Matchajak, I think of Noah Samsen, a socialist retard with the pedo 'stache and the usual slew of left wing talking points. Y'know, the type of guy that you see and immediately know what opinions he has about virtually any topic, whose smugness permeates any room he enters when he opens his mouth.

Usually, they were brought up by Christian parents and then became "enlightened" and became atheists. That's at least what I've observed in online spaces. The type of guy who claims that religion was shoved down his throat ever since birth but his actual life was more like being forced to go to church a few Sundays.
