TT we love music.

I believe music is part of the profound magic underlying nature and existence. To decorate time with sound and emotion, and share that experience across the island of individual is proof we are together. The song is both fleeting and deeply temporal, and together with things like love, and the ability to recognize beauty, music is proof of a loving metaphysical God.

Spiritually drawn toward music, I can trace my heritage through the WASP settlers of Boston, to the Norman-French conquest of the Isles. I proudly carry the torch of my people through the tunes and ballads of the new and old country. It brings me great joy to share and teach them to those who yearn to carry our legacy.

Do any soyteens play music? Do you know the traditional songs of your homeland? Do you love music?

Unfortunately true folks songs have little trace in modern Russian culture. In the Tsarist times the intelligentsiya considered them yucky because they came from poor people so nobody seriously recorded them on vinyl, and in the Soviet times they were shunned for being vulgar and conservative so instead the government hired musicians to make tunes that sounded kinda like folk songs but were about the cultural values that the soviets wanted to push. Sad!

I envy those who can whistle. I can play anything if it has strings or makes noise if you bang on it, but I cannot whistle. The music is in you and you should embrace it.

You don't have to be a virtuoso or even particularly skilled to play great music. Check out this guy with the black guitar. You can do that.
Learn this basic strum and the open chords from a few YT videos, then go find some old Serbian unc and lay down a that simple driving rhythm strum while he noodles the fuck out of a mandolin, fiddle, or guitar. If you play trad music with others your brain learns very fast and they will guide you.

CCR is the best classic Southern rock band and I throw on their self titled vinyl every now and then. Trad Russian balilaika music is sick… though I don't know how old it is. In general Russians are good at taking fine arts from other cultures and making it their own thing.

That banjo sound is a plectrum or tenor banjo - an instrument that gained prominence in the 1920s particularly among Irish and Jazz circles. Basically a banjo without the little string on the top.
I know that's Norwegian song you linked but that Aussie flag has some folk music chops behind it, too.

Anglos dispersed in the 17-1800s and similar folk music arose on different sides of the planet, but its curious that the same music from the same period of the Isles sounds nothing like it. Like that banjo/fiddle was the spirit of the adventurous.
