https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%A9lix_Contreiras_RodriguesFelix Contreiras Rodrigues ( Bage , January 14 , 1884 - May 8 , 1960 ) was a Brazilian lawyer , playwright , economist , writer , philosopher , historian , cattle rancher , poet , politician , professor , and sociologist . He was a member and president of the Rio Grande do Sul Academy of Letters and a member of the Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Sul .
In the cultural field, he is one of the most important regionalists of Rio Grande do Sul, receiving the enthusiasm of personalities such as Alberto Rangel and Alcides Maia . In the 1930s , he was considered the most important sociologist in Brazil, alongside Oliveira Viana . As a scholar of the people of Rio Grande do Sul, Felix was mentioned by Ernani Fornari as follows : "We are forced to confess that it is no longer possible, nowadays, to write about the psychology of the gaucho without repeating or citing Mr. Felix Contreiras Rodrigues. Practically, from a certain sociological angle, he exhausted the subject, leaving us, at times, only the recourse of weaving comments around his arguments and observations, or of exploring his core ideas more extensively. In truth, we know of no other author, in our language, who has better and more profoundly portrayed and studied, in its causes and effects, the character, temperament, feelings and psychology of the sons of the Continent of Sao Pedro."
He stood out for his work in the Integralist Movement , having held important positions in the Brazilian Integralist Action and the Popular Representation Party . He defended the democratic corporatist model of Integralism, based on Mihail Manoilescu . A disciple of Carlos Gide , he firmly supported cooperativism , which, for him, represented "the economic system from which Democracy would necessarily spring, provided it was fully realized in some country," although he rejected Gide's ideology of the end of profit.
In particular, Felix devoted himself deeply to the study of the theory of economic value and price, which resulted in the greatest work on these subjects ever produced in the world economic bibliography, Concepts of Value and Price . Through his book, he attempted to prove that a corporatist and integral regime would be the only one capable of ensuring fair prices and profits and, therefore, the only State, according to him, capable of governing the economy.
His work Traces of the Social and Political Economy in Colonial Brazil , from 1935, became a reference for all studies on population figures in Brazil between 1570 and the dawn of the 18th century. The population figure stipulated by the author is officially adopted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics , although it has been challenged by new research.
