Gems. Bannerlord is not a story game though, it's a sandbox, there is a campaign mode with a light story, but it's shit. I recommend you mod it once you get used to the game-play, there are a lot of vanilla+ mods and even full conversions.

The combat system is way simpler (Unless you play online with tryhards that spin around), the appeal is on the amount of different mechanics and how they interact with each other, the kingdom management, tactics, battles, trade, etc. It's very open-ended, you'll probably enjoy it.
