i mean the average is going down linearly, but yes, the distance between the lowest and highest strata is increasing as well, higher peaks and lower downs. but it applies to units, not the society as a whole through the time.
natural selection is less impactful by definition, because we stop to rely on the nature and augment ourselves with technology that makes up for the deficiencies that would normally (in nature) make us less likely to reproduce. this technological progress can make some people reach even higher, but some technologies like the LLMs or translators dumb people down because they make up for the lacking cognitive and intellectual functions, an evolutionary result of better medicine, safety etc., 'the society' in short
